The Church of the Bible

It is important to note that as we search the Bible we only find one church that Christ set up. We know from Matthew 28:18 that all authority or power has been given to Christ. Ephesians 4:4-6 explains that there is only one body. We can also glean from Colossians 1:24 that the church is the body. The Bible clearly shows that we can find only one body, one church. Christ died for the church and it is His body. He has all authority to have the church bear His name. The body of Christ is the church of Christ. We can also read in Ephesians 5:25 that Christ died and gave Himself for the church so that that man might be saved. It is important to note that the Bible explains that those who are in the body of Christ, will be the only body or church delivered up to God on Judgement day. 1 Corinthians 15:24.

God's Plan For Saving Man

Hear the word of God

Romans 10:17 KJV
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

For one to know what must be done to be saved, the individual must first hear the word of God.

Believe the word of God

John 8:24 KJV
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Christ makes it very clear that one must believe that He is the Christ, and believe the words that He has spoken, otherwise, you will die in your sins.

Repent

2 Peter 3:9 KJVS
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God does not want anyone to perish, but for all to repent.

Confess that Christ is the Savior

Romans 10:10 KJV
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Paul makes it clear that when one believes, it is unto righteousness. When one confesses that Christ is the Savior, it is unto salvation. Just believing and confessing only, will not save anyone.

Be baptized into Christ

Mark 16:16 KJV
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 22:16 KJV
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

1 Peter 3:21 KJV
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

We are commanded to be baptized into Christ to be saved. Romans 6:4 KJV Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Live faithful, following the Bible

2 Peter 1:3-10 KJV
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: [4] Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. [5] And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. [10] Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Here Peter explains that to live faithful, we must grow and add to our faith. When we are faithful, we will have a crown waiting for us.

Revelation 2:10 KJV
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

The Organization of the church

We must follow the plan God has laid out for us in the bible on how the church is to be set up. Below are the scriptures where we find the authorization to conduct worship services and organize the church the way we do.

It's Organization

The head of the church is Christ, not a man or a group of men in a different city. Ephesians 5:23. The church is to then be governed by a group of qualified men known as elders. 1 Timothy 5:17, Titus 5:1, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Timothy 3:1-7. These elders are to uphold the bible and its purity, speaking where the bible speaks and being silent where the bible is silent. The deacons will serve under the elders acting as managers over certain tasks. 1 Timothy 3:8-13. The church is also commanded to have a preacher, so the word can be taught to the members. Romans 10:14, Ephesians 5:30

The Worship

We must worship God in spirit and in truth, John 4:24. We must not deviate in any way from God's plan, otherwise, we are adding to the word of God, thinking that we can do it our way, Revelation 22:18-19.

The day in which we worship is only to be upon the first day of the week according to Acts 20:7 and 1 Corinthians 16:1-2.

We find one act of worship to be partaking in the communion to remember what Christ did for us. We find the authorization for this in 1 Corinthians 10:16, 11:23-25, and Matthew 26:26-29. We only use unleaved bread and pure 100% grape juice, as those are the only items authorized in scripture. We find examples of this in Luke 22:18 and in Matthew 26:29.

A second act of worship is to sing songs to God as He is the center of our worship. We need to be pleasing to Him, not man. We are only commanded to sing, there is zero authorization for musical instruments of any kind. To add musical instruments because they "sound good" would be adding instruments "we" think sound good and would be false to do so. God would command what instruments to be used in New Testament worship if He wanted them.

Romans 15:9 - Sing

Acts 16:25 - Sang

Revelation 5:9 - Sung

1 Corinthians 14:15 - Sing

Ephesians 5:19 - Singing

Colossians 3:16 - Singing

A third act of worship is to pray to God only through Christ. Christ is the only mediator, not man, not the Holy Spirit, but Christ only. 1 Timothy 2:5. 1 Corinthians 14:15, Colossians 3:17, and 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18.

A fourth act of worship is to give back to God a portion that we have been blessed with. In 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Paul explains that if we are living a prosperous life, we must give back to God. It must be done only on the first day of the week, no other day is authorized.

A fifth and final act of worship is to preach the word of God. Acts 20:7, Matthew 28:18-20, and 2 Timothy 4:2 explain that we must preach the word of God. During the worship hour, we do not separate the children and the adults. More commonly known as "children's church". This is a violation of God's law for worship, as we do not find any authorization to do so.
